NTM 272: Motherhood as a marginalised group within society
08, Sep, 2020
In this fascinating conversation with Dr Sophie Brock, a Sociologist specialising in Motherhood Studies, we talk about the ways in which we’re programmed to minimise or invisibilise ourselves as mothers within the broader social construct of motherhood. We explore that motherhood is rarely an individualised experience but one that is culturally mediated to benefit powers that be and how you can break free to create your own meaningful experience.
Dr Sophie Brock is a Sociologist specialising in Motherhood Studies and a single Mother to her 3 year old daughter. Her work advocates for the liberation of mothers from the myths of perfect motherhood, translating academic research on motherhood to the public forum. She offers online education, mentoring, and hosts The Good Enough Mother podcast, to support mothers in reclaiming an empowered practice of mothering for themselves.
