Hello! And welcome to the second instalment in a little podcast series about my trip to Greece.
As most of you will know, I headed off to Greece on the 5th of February to join up with a group organised by Involvement Volunteers International, to work in the refugee camps. There were around 30 of us – doctors, nurses, naturopaths, nutritionists, and other allied health workers, all hoping to make a difference. Our mission was to break up into smaller groups and head to various camps throughout Greece (which contained mainly Syrian and Afghani refugees) to volunteer our time and expertise wherever needed.
In this episode, you will hear my adventures from my second week in Greece. In this episode, I make my way to a little island called Chios, where boats full of refugees are arriving regularly from Turkey.
In this episode you’ll learn about an awesome local group called CESRT, who not only assist refugees on the beach when they land, but they also have several initiatives to improve quality of life in the camps. These guys are amazing, and I can’t wait to tell you about them!
I hope you enjoy this episode. I’ll be back next week with Part 3 (my final instalment), where I take you for a virtual walk-through Souda camp and I’ll tell you a little more about some of the residents. I met some really cool characters in Souda and I know their stories will blow you away.
