In this beautiful episode of Self Love Podcast, Kim is joined by broadcaster, author and storyteller Sheridan Stewart to explore her deeply personal journey to self-love and self-worth in midlife. Sheridan opens up about moving from a life and career largely defined by what she did and achieved, to discovering who she is beyond her career. She shares her experiences of burnout and the emotional impact of broadcasting through incredibly challenging times, including Black Summer and COVID, and the lessons she learned about boundaries, knowing when to press pause and giving herself permission to choose a life centred around meaning, connection and contentment.
Sheridan also shares the story behind her book I Am Enough and the 90-day challenge that grew from her own journey of reflection and change. Together, Kim and Sheridan explore why knowing we are enough and feeling enough can be two very different things, and how small, intentional actions can help us create more joy, self-compassion and contentment.
This is a powerful conversation about recognising that it is never too late to change direction, redefine success and rediscover yourself. Sheridan encourages us to stop waiting for life to change before taking action and instead begin making small choices that help create the way we want to feel. A heartfelt reminder that self-love isn’t about becoming someone different, it is about coming home to who you already are and knowing, truly, I am enough.
About Sheridan:
Sheridan Stewart is an author, broadcaster and speaker who, for more than 3o years, has been telling stories that invite us to feel a little more hopeful, a little more connected, and a little more at home in our own lives.
With warmth, curiosity and humour, Sheridan creates conversations and stories that help people feel seen, think differently, laugh often, and reconnect with what matters most.
Before joining the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) in 2014, Sheridan was a popular Triple M presenter, music journalist and comedy host/producer. Today she can be heard on ABC Radio Queensland (Sunshine Coast), exploring the ideas, issues and everyday moments that shape our lives and strengthen our sense of community. Away from the microphone, you’ll usually find her writing, swimming, or dreaming up her next creative project.
Sheridan’s first non-fiction book, I Am Enough: A 90-Day Challenge to Find Contentment, was published in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and the US in 2023. Her fiction has also appeared in the Chicago Quarterly Review.
Inspired by her own journey from burnout to contentment, Sheridan created The Joy Club, where she helps people cultivate more joy, purpose and contentment through practical, encouraging online programs, including 21% More Joy in 21 Days, Make Your Dreams Real… in a Way That Actually Works!, and the I Am Enough: A 90-Day Challenge Program. Through each program, she invites people to take small, intentional steps towards a life of greater joy, purpose and contentment.
Her definition of Self Love is: The ability to press pause and know what is enough.
Her favourite quote is from: Danielle LaPorte “What will I do to feel the way I want to feel?”

Quotes:
I am a midlife woman who has rediscovered what self-love means.
We have all this life experience. We lived, we have suffered, we have had joy, we have had loss.
We still have enough time to make a difference in the world.
What I have learned about myself is that drive, coupled with the wrong circumstances, can go into overdrive, and can lead to burnout.
We can now just press pause and learn to love ourselves a little bit more.
There is time, and this thing about having to get it all done by Tuesday, last Tuesday, eventually will catch up with you.
There is always the chance to pick up the threads and go, what does success look like to me now?
It will look different at different ages and different stages of life.
Everybody, even the most introvert of us need love, we need connection.
I can really value people who are different to me.
I realised what had gone missing in all of this intensely, meaningful, purposeful, ambition, driven life, the fun had gone missing.
Being able to nurture other people, to hold space for other people, is such a valuable skill.
Every word I said would impact someone in some way.
The ability to press pause and know what is enough.
I am enough. I have enough. I do enough.
That was a game changing moment for me.
I often believe the keys to what we need to hear are in our complaints.
It was about pressing pause long enough to see what emerges when we pause a behaviour.
Where we get our meaning and sense of purpose is challenging ourselves.
Balance that with joy. Balance that with bringing something in that nourishes you, nurtures you, or brings you joy.
When you pause a behaviour, particularly anything that is self-soothing, what emerges is fascinating.
We rarely get through a challenge without slipping up.
I am insisting on living my best life.
It is not too late. Not too old. Pick a day and make it count.
