In Episode 230 of The Real Food Reel we are joined by Dr David G Harper, associate professor of kinesiology at the University of the Fraser Valley and a visiting scientist at the BC Cancer Research Center, Terry Fox Laboratory. In today’s episode David and I explore a standard ketogenic diet in comparison to a standard Western diet, and his latest project, BioDiet. You will learn the therapeutic benefits of ketosis and how this relates to brain health, cognitive function and the prevention of Alzheimer’s disease, otherwise known as type 3 diabetes, a disease triggered by insulin resistance in the brain. This is an incredible episode that really shows us the longer term negative impact of excess carbohydrate in the diet.
