Recent studies at New York University have uncovered fascinating insights into the role of the amygdala in the brain’s limbic system, particularly in how it processes and releases emotional trauma. These findings challenge conventional wisdom and open new avenues for therapeutic approaches including Aromatherapy. Smell is a powerful and often underappreciated sense. The olfactory system, responsible for detecting and processing odours, is directly connected to the limbic system, which includes the amygdala. This direct connection means that smells can evoke strong emotional responses and memories, more so than other senses. This activation allows the release of emotional trauma stored within the amygdala, potentially offering a pathway for healing and therapeutic intervention.
