SHY 60: Scott Gooding – Making real food simple, fun, sexy and affordable

Sometimes an interview comes along that's so free-flowing and fun that we run overtime... and I don't want to interrupt to person to say "stop."
This is one of those interviews.
Meet Scott Gooding - a passionate real food cook, former MKR finalist... and all round awesome bloke.
Scott's superpower is making healthy food simple, fun, sexy, affordable... and downright delicious. He's brought out recipe books, taught countless cooking classes and is often found on stage and in the media, inspiring people everywhere to get into the kitchen and give it a go.
In this episode, we ponder the question:
"We all know we should eat real food, but why is it that we don't?"
Listen as we chat about:
- Un-learning old behaviour patterns around food.
- Why mindset is super important when it comes to healthy eating.
- How to overcome barriers in order to live a healthier life.
- How to turn the kitchen from a place of dread into somewhere fun and exciting.
- Simple, easy hacks to make cooking at home a breeze.
"If you start cooking at home... then you know exactly what's in your food, what's in your daughter/son/partner's food, and then you can start to optimise health. But you can only do that if you're excited about cooking."
We also get into a bit of food philosophy:
"There's definitely a time when I was flying the paleo flag."
Scott talks about his time as a hard-core paleo follower, and why he's softened his message these days to be less dogmatic (that's right, folks - he now eats grains, legumes and potatoes - shock horror!). "When you strip is all back, my message hasn't changed, but my delivery has."
We also chat about the misguided notion that exercise is the solution to weight management.
"I go to the gym to feel good, not to keep my weight in check."
And we talk about the ritual of family night (spoiler alert, it doesn't have to involve your actual family!), and why it's important to share food.
"I think it's in our DNA, at a really primal level, to share food together."
